Two scenes caught my eye on a stroll around the town. First, leaves basking in the proper sunlight of a fresh spring are always pleasant to behold. Second, I always think the new black buds of an ash tree look like pads on a paw – so, gimme three!

Perth: floral closeups: lines
Part two of a lunchtime stroll around Perth – floral closeups, a study in sprays of lines filling the frame.
I have no idea how the dog’s ball toy got stuck in that tree.
Perth: around the South Inch
When in doubt, grab one old manual prime lens, stick it on the camera and go for a stroll around the South Inch in Perth. This is the first of a small handful of posts of things that caught my eye one lunchtime, starting with the obvious view of St Leonard’s in the Fields Church of Scotland across the playing fields.
Cairnwell
Ben Lomond
Classic views – the familiar pointy triangular shape of a snow-covered Ben Lomond with its head in the clouds, from the Loch Ard Forest track
Loch Ard
A well-known view, complete with leading-lines fence and everything…
Up Kinnoull Hill: Wistful
A simple scene – I spotted this bramble silhouetted against the glowing low sun just as I was heading back down the hill to the carpark.
Up Kinnoull Hill: Strange Trees
Two different views on trees in the woods on Kinnoull Hill.
Both taken in bright sunny daylight; one tweaked to look more like dusk/night-time, the other processed for a high-key haze. Nice one, Darktable.
Up Kinnoull Hill: Nice Trees
Three photos of trees, taken on a stroll up Kinnoull Hill in Perth.
Festive spirit
Stillness: the Pass of Brander
The reflections of Creag an Aonaich in Loch Awe on a calm day take some beating.
Only question is: with or without the boat?
Around St Fillan’s
Loch Earn is still an idyllic scene despite everyone stopping to take photos in St Fillan’s. Herewith, two obvious views:
Personally, I like this view instead:
There’s a time-/context-axis running from the far distance – first there was the landscape, then there was Robert Mulholland’s statue Still, then there’s people taking photos of it, then there’s me shooting them. All things considered, a bit “meta”.
as dusk turns to dark
I haven’t been around this area for a few years, but happened to be passing through Kenmore as dusk gave way to outright dark.
Mist rising on Ben Lawers in the distance:
Update: this image has been well received, so I’ve made it available for sale via my landscape photography site.
Water: Around Loch Rannoch (4)
A final pair of images from the day’s trip around Loch Rannoch – the first taken at the start as I was setting off, the second toward the end of the day while I was hoping for a glamorous sunset but enjoyed a beautiful subtle sundown instead.
The view of the folly on the Eilean nam Faoileag crannog in Loch Rannoch is available on my landscape photography site, ShinyPhoto.
A Tree
Time for something a little different, and back in the original spirit of this blog as a source for mobile photos, as well.
I spotted this tree in the middle of Craigie in Perth – perhaps an unexpected location for so elegant a life-form, and testament to the selectivity of photography. Camera never lies? If I’d framed this any lower, there would have been a fence and bunch of buildings and take-away shops in the way.
Some experimental post-processing using the GIMP with the `Beautify’ plugin, amongst other things.
